Search engine optimization or SEO is a marketing technique that many businesses use because it is a simple way to bring in more targeted customers to websites and ultimately to a real-world brick-and-mortar location. For instance, a fly fishing company could write a keyword rich article about prime real estate for fly fishing and post this to their website for visitors to read. This keyword rich article then serves the purpose of being used by the three major search engines – Google, Yahoo!, and MSN – which sends out their “feelers” in order to find these new words or keyword phrases and rank the website along with the keywords or keyword phrases on their website pages. A high ranking on the search engine website pages is desirable because the majority of people who use search engines to hunt for what they are looking for only look at the first few listings of websites before making their final choice. The act of having a keyword rich article on your website is known as search engine optimization and having the search engines find the keywords or keyword phrases and rank a website is a free and automatic service to anyone with a website.
