Beach cruisers bicycles were first introduced by Schwinn at the time of the Great Depression when bicycle sales were declining sharply. It seems almost poetic that the beach cruisers are making a comeback today in 2009 during another economic downturn when people are spending less on their gas guzzling vehicles and opting for a more environmentally friendly way to get around town instead.

According to the National Pawnbrokers Association less than .05 percent of all items taken to a pawn shop are stolen items. With the new safeguards in place, many criminals know better than to bring their “hot” valuables to a local pawn shop. Many police and detectives frequently stop by pawn shops with a stolen goods list to see if anything matches if the pawn shop owner does not provide the information for them or it is not a law in their state. If the criminals are stupid enough to bring in and try to pawn a stolen item, the safeguards will allow for a police officer to apprehend them; however this leaves the pawn shop owner out of the money they gave the person for the item, if it’s gotten that far.

Today there are approximately 28 million Americans with a hearing impairment, including those who are completely deaf. Hearing loss is one of the most prevalent chronic health conditions in the United States, affecting men, women and children of all ages, across all socioeconomic levels and in all segments of the population. Under the age of 18, roughly 17 in 1,000 children are affected by a hearing loss; for persons over 65, 314 in 1,000 people experience a hearing loss. Incidence of hearing loss increase with a person’s age; hereditary, trauma, disease or long time exposure to damaging noise or medications can all be culprits to a person’s hearing loss.

The National Candle Association recommends people who are environmentally conscious, in addition to being health-conscious, burn soy candles instead of ordinary paraffin candles because soy candles burn longer and cleaner, and they are non-toxic with no petrol-carbon soot. The soy candles come from a renewable source, soy grows from the ground like other plants whereas paraffin candles contribute to the dependency on crude oil.

According to a 2007 research project between Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and AAA foundation for traffic safety based on data gathered between 1999 and 2004, fatality rates began to climb for drivers over the age of 65. From the ages of 75 to 84, the rate of deaths due to car accidents become three in every 100 million miles driven and this is equal to the death rate of teenage drivers. And for those seniors aged 85 and older, the fatality rate skyrockets to nearly four times higher than that for teenagers.
