cancer centersEvery state has several places where a person could go to be checked for cancer or a cancer hospital that will help them determine if what they think is wrong with them is cancer or not. The doctor who looks for cancer or diagnoses a person with cancer is called an oncology doctor and they do more than see patients. Some of the oncology doctors perform research, conduct medical studies on tissue samples and sometimes on lab mice to determine if a possible cure is close and some write about cancer  treatments to help inform other specialists, nurses and those who work closely with cancer patients.

As of now, there are over 100 different cancers in 14 categories. Cancer is defined as cells that mutate out of control and being bad cells, they ‘eat away’ at the good cells in a person’s body.

The 14 categories of cancers are divided into the glands; cartilage; blood vessels; red blood cells; white blood cells; pigment cells; liver; fat; muscles; bones; bone marrow; bladder; eye and brain. Every type of cancer will fit into one of these 14 categories including breast cancer, colon cancer, throat and mouth cancer and cervical cancer.

There is no known cure for any of the cancers; however there are preventative measures an individual could take to cut their risk of contracting cancer down to a minimal. Staying out of or protecting themselves while being in the sun is a major improvement against the risk of various skin cancers or melanoma. Many people take going outside for garnet and do not properly protect their skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays.

Various cancer centers around the country and around the world specialize in treating different kinds of cancers differently. Some of the cancer centers and hospitals take an old-fashioned approach of radiation and chemotherapy while others may take a more modern and updated approach to cures and treatments with a special diet or some alternative methods of trying to rid the body of the cancerous cells.
