candlesAs the economy struggles to recover, people are looking for eco-friendly, safe yet exciting and affordable gifts to give to their friends and family for birthdays, anniversaries or get well soon gifts. What they have found are environmentally friendly soy candles that burn cleaner and help to protect the environment and the health of the people who are around the burning candle.

Soy candles are typically made into scented jar candles because the soy wax is soft and cannot hold a shape very well on its own; therefore there are no pillars or tapered candles made from soy wax. In addition, making them into scented candles is a good idea because they hold scents longer than traditional paraffin wax as well. Paraffin wax burns black soot that people breathe and get into their lungs and this is not good for them over a long period of time. Soy candles are cleaner burning with no black soot and there are no breathing problems with them.

People buy candles to brighten up their own rooms and lives because burning candles can have a good effect on people, especially the scented candles – this is sometimes referred to as aromatherapy. Scented candles, depending on their scent, can help a person with their memory, concentration, sleep, appetite and many other cognitive behaviors from the scents of various flowers, herbs and spices. For example, lilacs can be very relaxing and helps to calm a person, almost to the point of sleep, and therefore lighting a candle of lilac before bedtime would be a good idea rather than something that would help to energize a person.

Candle lovers like to mix and match scents to come up with their own concoction of wonderful smelling air for their home. Some people light candles that give off a floral scent like lilacs and then light a chocolate candle nearby in order to mix the two scents flowing throughout the room for a unique and refreshing scent that is flowery, yet sweet.

There are some candle stores that have small pieces of candles that allow a person to mix the small candle pieces in a bag and then pure the pieces into a bowl for a unique smelling candle mix.
