solar powered signsSolar powered signs are bringing light to many isolated locations, such as rural areas, that would have otherwise gone without street lighting because the sun’s power is free and available everywhere.  With these solar powered street signs, there is no need for wires, trenches, conduits or transformers.  Everything is self-contained and grid-independent.

Solar signs are highly desired by street and highway departments because they are constructed of heavy-duty materials and made to withstand hail and heavy winds, perfect for those communities in which these weather conditions are factors many times out of the year.

Nearly every state has adopted strict laws in which drivers pay a fine, lose their licenses and/or go to prison if they hit and injure or kill a highway worker. Many people believe roadway accidents to be on the upswing because drivers are going faster but it’s mainly due to an increase in distracted drivers. Cars, vans and even trucks are now equipped with GPS navigational devices and some have DVD players for the kids to watch movies. This could be a major cause of distraction for a driver who might be unintentionally listening to a movie and not paying attention to what lies in the road ahead.

Solar stop signs are a popular ‘first time’ purchase for many cities that don’t have a large budget and want to try to improve their roadways for their citizens. A countless number of drivers tend to drive through stop signs because they are distracted or are in a hurry and think the other driver will stop. Unfortunately, sometimes the other driver is thinking the same thing and neither car stops, causing a bad accident.

‘Children at play’ signs are typically difficult to see or are ignored by motorists that are driving too fast or may be distracted.  A motorist is more likely to see a ‘children at play sign’ when it has flashing solar powered LED lights on it than a regular, non-flashing sign.  The same can be said for all regular traffic signs; they are simply not as visible or attention grabbing as the solar powered flashing LED light signs.
