Frustrating or Relaxing, Georgia Fly Fishing Not For Everyone
Some people find Georgia fly fishing to be an extremely relaxing sport from the tying of flies to the constant casting of their reel; they will spend hours upon hours doing something that may or may not garner them dinner for the evening.
Imitating the stages of a bug’s life, from larva to an adult fly is what fly tying is all about. Trout love to catch and eat mayflies. Trout eat a considerable amount of the nymphal form of mayflies that live for years near streambeds however trout also eat other stages of the mayfly life forms. Nymphs swim to the surface as an emerger and then, as a dun, they lie on the water’s surface until they are able to fly. The adult mayflies lay eggs in the water and unfortunately die after that; this stage of their life is called the spinner. Those really talented fly fishermen can tie flies that imitate each stage of a mayfly’s lifecycle while other fly fishermen experiment with the many hundreds of other insects available for casting and teasing trout or bass to the surface.
Georgia fly fishing guides often tell their students that they must match wits with a fish: the presentation and the fly must be lifelike or they will simply be practicing their casting instead of actually catching a fish. Fly fishermen must realize that fish are the result of years of evolution; they are not going to be fooled easily, therefore a tied fly must be as close to perfect as possible.
A person must have some technical talent in addition to being artistic in order to tie flies, and creativity is also helpful, although there are a multitude of tools to help someone tie flies when they are first starting out in this relaxing, yet sometimes frustrating sport. Anglers often custom tie their own flies which are known as ophthalmology. Fly fishing is a natural outlet for ophthalmologists.
Flies could be made out of a multitude of different materials, some natural, some artificial including elk hair, pheasant tail, various animal feathers, very thin wires and strings and yarns of a variety of colors.
