Now the reasons why many people are interested in working from home is often different from person to person.But the primary one is a motivation to earn a decent income that doesnt require travelling to work every day like joe average assumes is the only way to make a living.Another reason is no longer having a boss that one has to take orders from.You are your own boss.

But dont be sucked in by the countless get rich quick stories that abound on the internet.How many people want to read about ” I tried and failed” stories anyway.The road may not be paved with gold roads to riches, the road is not paved with gold, but their are nuggets to be found if you do your research .Yes the work loads can be higher for home businesses but you have the bonus of not working for anyone but yourself.!!

At this stage you appear to be very interested in an online income based around the vagaries of the internet.This is because you realise the immense possibilities a small business can achieve online rather than offline.The two obvious ways of making an income are selling a service or selling a product.

At this moment you are obviously interested in an online income based around the combination of home and the intenet.This is because most marketers realise the amazing immense possibilities an individual can achieve online for a smaller outlay than offline business model.Their are only two obvious ways of making an income which are selling a service or selling a product.!Thats it.!

If you did not have a site then you could be advertising using software like adwords which is maintained by google or yahoo ads etc.Both forms require a level of skill and this is what we will discuss briefly in this article.One of the things you would have to do would be, isolate a product line you like,work out a method of promoting it,and then find long tail words, which are easier for competition.The term long tail refers to keywords that revolve around a subject.For instance, instead of trying to compete for the word “chevrolet” which would be difficult, you might compete for “discount chevrolet in michigan” which will have less competition.

One of the most brilliant early salesman, “pen and ink” men as they were called was Gary Halbert of course.During a sales class , gary asked the following “if you and I both owned a hamburger stand and we were in a contest to see who could sell the most hamburgers..what advantages would you like most to have on your side to win.?”The students replied along the lines of “I would place my shop near a railway station” or “my prices would be the lower than everyone” etc etc.Gary then leaned forward and stated “the only advantage I want is a starving crowd” . That says so much with so little.

For internet marketing, like other standard business formats there are only two key factors for you to research to see if you can make a living.Traffic levels which is defined as how many potential customers are there, and Visitor values, what is each of these potential customers worth.The problem with traffic levels is, a search for terms like jokes/pranks etc shows large traffic levels but with a near zero level of possible buyers.Now an often overlooked tool for examining a possible market is google adwords suggestion tool.

When using Google suggestion tool go to “results are tailored to..” and click edit and choose country.Type in your main keyword and tick “use synonyms” box.I personally dont tick “dont show ideas for new keywords..” for this method.We now see the “Approx Avg Search Volumne” for a monthly guesstimate.Then we literally look for the long tail keywords from the bottom up and see if we can find a decent search number.Then if we are going for the US market we enter United states google search and see what is the number of competitors are for each term.

To find the possible sales value of our keywords whilst using google adwords suggestion tool we search “keywords” to find web sites “built” around these keywords to some degree.To find dollar value of the customer/niche we go to the adwords tool on the left hand side and click “Show estimated Avg .CPC”.Then we multiply traffic by cpc(value per visitor) and come to a Total market value.Anything above $900,000 per month is a definite sales possiblity.The search for long tail phrases to get pages to rank in the search engines.When comparing two similar niches, the one with the highest customer value will probably be more profitable.!Thats when you start to consider number of your competitors, strength of those competitors, your products sales price,possible conversion rates, and your ability to optomise the site to rank.
